Reviews – Attorney Jeff Hughes
I have been using the Illinois branch and so far everything has gone smoothly.
In my personal opinion I believe they are over charging for the services they provide. I would seriously consider shopping around before settling with this firm. Their level of support and responsiveness has much to be desired. You can get a lot more, for much less somewhere else.
I had e-mailed Sterling Law Offices regarding a divorce I already have in progress. My divorce proceedings are in another state and have gone on ridiculously too long. All I wanted to know was if it was possible to hire a different attorney in the state I now reside in. Simple inquiry, right?! I received no phone call, no e-mail, no response whatsoever. I guess if they see no dollar signs they aren't interested in helping someone with a simple inquiry. What this says (to me), they will be there if they have a financial gain to earn from you. Btw….I did make two other inquiries to two other law firms which I also had no response (I will also Yelp) before I contacted Herrling Clark Law Firm who was kind enough to at least send a simple e-mail back.
They never made promises they couldn't keep, and helped me understand everything.
Jeff Hughes is sexist
I would not recommend this law firm to anyone who values a business standing behind its word/contract, confidentiality of personal information or being treated with respect. I hired Sterling a little more than one year ago. Not until recently did I discover my original Sterling lawyer, who is no longer with this firm, did not file any Stage 1 documents for my divorce – documents I provided more than 8 months prior. Nor did they negotiate with my ex's attorney. The stage one documents – financials and MSA – were only pointed out as missing by the judge overseeing my divorce. Embarrassing to say the least – to be caught off guard like that. Moreover, the next attorney that was assigned to me by Sterling sent me personal identification and financial information of another couple filing for divorce! After this, I could not trust Sterling law, so I terminated my relationship with Sterling and retaining new counsel. But in the end, what I'm most disgusted by is attorney Jeff Hughes of Sterling. He is nothing short of a misogynist – going as far as to slut shame me via email after I attempted to discuss a refund for services not completed by the firm in the Stage 1, as laid out in the firm's contract. This man has something seriously wrong with his heart, and needs to adjust his attitude towards women. Or at the least, take note of the #metoo movement.
My ex and I had already agreed all the terms, financially and with regard to our children, but the situation changed. Sterling was there to help me get things sorted out in the best interest of our children.
I felt comfortable in communicating my most personal issues with this matter. Not made to feel I was untruthful. In the end he fought hard and had a lot of energy.
Had one lawyer no longer with firm. He didnít know much about family law and wasted 2k on him. Had to pay absorbent amount. I went with another lawyer she was okay and then she moved to another firm. Getting her the funds and going through Sterling was not easy.
Patricia was very good with the intake and then the case was handed off the other attorney was too busy for you. It went from lots of information and communication to silence.
The mediation process went pretty smooth.
There were a couple of items we needed to address regarding the parenting plan and one of the financial disclosure documents but had them correct for our final hearing. Your company did not have a local attorney in our area who was able to handle a case in Brown county so we were assigned one from the Milwaukee area. We conducted our meetings using Web-ex meetings and by phone calls. I did request a final call from our Attorney prior to our final hearing date and received an email back that she had left the company. I was able to get in touch with another Attorney to get my questions answered.
Nothing at this time
EVERYONE was professional and wonderful.
Thank you for everything your team did to help me through a tough time. From the top to the bottom of the firm, EVERYONE was professional and wonderful. I will be recommending your firm again.
Just wanted a free consult
They are a huge firm. I'm sure there is value and experience in the firm in some capacity, but when I expressed my dissatisfaction with the consultation, Kelley Shaw responded back to me saying she looked at the notes and she thinks that the attorney did what she was supposed to do. She told me that Law has a lot of gray areas, and she would not refund $150.
They work hard for their clients and do their best to get what you are looking for.
Provided great console
I wish I would have had this firm for my divorce. I went in today to try to clean up my previous attorneys poor job and they met with me for an hour with many suggestions, options and gave me an understanding of what I have. Anyone going through a divorce I strongly suggest talking to Holly she really knew her law.
Because all you do is family law. My ex wife has taken me to court several times. She lost each time because I don't think she had competent representation. I'm tired of her pushing me around making me feel like some low life dad. I'm a pretty hard sell and very cautious with my money (because I don't have much of it). I asked around social media, father advocacy groups, and reviews online. Sterling was the choice.
I was expecting my divorce attorney to handle paperwork, counsel me on child custody and placement, and help sort out financial issues. What I wasn't expecting was the attention given to the emotional part of the divorce. I feel like Sterling Law professionally handled the procedural part of the divorce but also focused on my emotional well being during this painful process. I would recommend Sterling Law without reservation to anyone unfortunate enough to have to go through a divorce.
Kind, considerate feedback, and very professional.
Thumbs up to Sterling Law. I had a great relationship with Jeff and thank him for everything he's helped me with! He was truly caring and I had a positive experience.
A trusted friend knew the circumstances of my case and told me she Äòheard' Sterling Law only handles family law and is a strong advocate for women & children.† I reviewed several firms and ultimately came back to yours. My initial call to your firm I spoke to Kelly, who was fabulous. I explained my situation and shared that I need a very strong attorney who understands how to combat narcissism (akaĶmy ex-husband) and who will fight for my daughter.† I need an advocate to hear her and be her voice.† †I have learned a lot about narcissism and its traits the past few year and know its not easy to understand much less to prove, but its very real.† Thus after talking with Kelly, she got it and the same with Dan. I am very grateful to have your team on my side.†
We were treated with respect and compassion and given the information we need to make steps to move on when the path becomes clearer Thank You
I would NEVER recommend Sterling Law period! I paid (or should I say threw away) $4k dollars and was assigned (in my opinion) a novice attorney who advocated more for my ex & his benefits than for mine. They wanted me to pay $3k more to continue and I had to retain a new attorney in the middle of my divorce proceedings. They quoted me a fee (above the $4k I already paid) for just about everything I mentioned that could have been revealed during informal discovery. My assigned attorney could not even read a W2 properly. After my experience with my new attorney, I could go on and on about how grossly misrepresented I was at Sterling Law. Prior to leaving, I wrote a letter detailing my concerns and spoke to someone who was suppose to be my assigned attorney's senior (I guess) and that was a total waste of time. Once I was gone the lead attorney at the firm reached out to me for my feedback ( I guess this is standard procedure). I responded with another long letter detailing my experience and concerns and he never even responded. Going through a divorce is already difficult enough. PLEASE save yourself some money, time & heartache…do not do business with this firm.
While going through a really rough divorce, Sterling Law Office was always there to answer every question. Whether it was email, meeting or phone call. I highly recommend their services to anyone.
The lawyers' motto is perjury or bust; they destroy it all – families, children, trust. They are the right firm for you if you hate your children and would like to see their lives destroyed – there is nothing they will not stoop to, as long as they are winning in the short term. A scorched Earth attorney firm._x000D_
Response from Sterling Law: Ms. W, we are sorry you feel this way. However, we do not represent you. We represent the opposing party and his interests.
I love the pricing scheme, but have some reservations about the specific attorney I am working with. When an attorney doesn't respond to multiple email and text messages over time, you have to wonder.
I had a coaching session with Meg O'Marro and despite being late to our appointment she was fair and attentive. She gave me the advice she thought I needed and if something comes up she will be the first lawyer I go to!
Always listen to our questions
I found them thur yelp I read all the reviews. They were everything everyone said they were. Very friendly. Always listen to our questions and concerns. We hired them on the spot. I know their going to do their job. Thanks yelp.
Polite and professional
Sterling Law was polite and professional from start to finish. Communication is key and all of my questions were answered. My attorney was compassionate about my case and knew what they were doing.
Meg O marro did an amazing job I could not have asked for a better lady to represent me she respected me and listened to what I was saying great job and thank you so much for everything
Meg kept showing up and providing information on the processes that are unknown to us. Gave me confidence
An attorney who fights
From the first meeting at their office, it was clear I made the right choice.
I would recommend Meg
Meg communicated well, responded emails and voicemails in a timely manner, even while she was busy with other cases.
Finally a lawyer that cares
Meg got me thru a painful situation and always seemed to keep my interests at the top of her priorities.
Answer and return phone call from clients, rather than duck them. Do not allow reverse sexism to color the service rendered in divorce cases. So far I feel as if I have been conned out of $3500.00.
Meg was a great attorney. She helped me get great results in court.
Meg has great qualities such as Competency, compassion, very good listener, intelligent, confidence, reassuring, you can tell she works very hard for her clients. I'm very glad to have her.
Sterling Law helped me resolve my issues in court effeicently and effectively. I loved the fixed fee pricing and Dan was great at communicating throughout the process. Thanks.
The communication is very poor. Will not respond over the weekend.
Some Calls not Returned
I really like the staff, I think the biggest element for me is the free anytime mentor, she was awesome. Some calls were not returned.
Quicker communication that being said with limited understanding or experience with the legal system
Need better communication
If your in search of a firm that will come through for you without question hire Sterling Law. Jim is one of the individuals at the firm you want in your corner.
Dan's demeanor is always cool regardless of the pressure. He gets things done quickly and professionally. Dan is a skilled problem solver and actively listens well.
Takes the time to explain your options so you can feel confident in your decisions.
I did not realize how expensive a divorce could be.
Good local firm
I am experiencing a little lack of communication with a time sensitive issue.
I have been very unhappy with the responsiveness as a whole
